High-temperature heat transfer systems delivering stable, efficient heating without high pressure.

Thermal Oil Boilers

High-Temperature Heating Without High Pressure

Thermal oil boilers, also known as thermal fluid heaters, are industrial heating systems designed to transfer heat using a specialised thermal oil instead of water or steam. The thermal fluid circulates through a heat exchange body where it absorbs energy generated through combustion of various fuel sources.

At Boiler and Steam Installations (BSI), our thermal oil boiler systems deliver high-temperature heat safely and efficiently while operating at low system pressures.

How Thermal Oil Boilers Work

Efficient Heat Transfer Through Thermal Fluid

Industrial thermal oil boilers consist of one or more coils through which the thermal oil circulates. Combustion gases pass around these coils, transferring heat directly to the thermal fluid.

Heat Exchange Coils

Thermal oil circulates through coils designed for direct, efficient heat absorption.

Combustion Heating

Combustion gases pass around coils, transferring heat directly to the thermal fluid.

Circulation Pump

A pump moves heated oil to the process, maintaining stable flow and temperature.

Closed-Loop Return

After heat transfer, oil returns to be reheated—continuous, efficient operation.

This continuous closed-loop system ensures consistent temperature control and efficient operation throughout your process.

Applications

Ideal for Medium to High Temperature Processes

Thermal oil boilers are widely used where stable, high-temperature heat—up to approximately 400°C—is required without the high pressures associated with steam systems. Typical applications include:

Chemical and petrochemical processing
Food and beverage production
Textile and dyeing industries
Asphalt and bitumen plants
Wood processing and panel manufacturing
Energy and waste-to-energy systems

Fuel Flexibility

Designed to Operate on Multiple Energy Sources

BSI thermal oil boilers can be engineered to operate efficiently using a wide range of fuels:

Biomass
A sustainable fuel option for cost-effective, high-temperature heating.
Refuse-Derived Fuel (RDF)
Supports waste-to-energy initiatives and lowers fuel costs.
Natural Gas & Light Oils
Clean, efficient operation with reliable heat output.
Alternative & Waste Fuels
Engineered options for site-specific, cost-effective fuel strategies.

This flexibility allows clients to select the most cost-effective and sustainable fuel option for their operation.

Advantages

Safe, Efficient, and Cost-Effective Heating

Thermal oil systems offer key advantages over traditional steam systems:

Up to ~400°C while remaining in liquid phase
Low operating pressure, typically below 15 bar
Reduced risk of corrosion due to thermal oil properties
No high-pressure boiler rooms or extensive civil works
No permanently certified boiler operator required
High thermal inertia for stable, consistent heat delivery
